Presents the 2020:
THURSDAY DECEMBER 10TH
2020 has been an exceptional year. The world is facing challenges like never before and is experiencing unprecedented global issues spanning industries, countries and social landscapes. In these uncertain times, we’ve witnessed innovation and entrepreneurialism emerge to the forefront as a solution and new mode of thinking for our future.
Through it all, our venture ecosystem has continued to thrive and show resiliency, and we are thrilled to introduce you to them at our upcoming 2020 Venture Showcase!
Evolved from our annual Pitches & Pitchers event, the 2020 Venture Showcase will feature ventures across our community from Ones-to-Watch and Sneak-a-Peek in the incubation phase of our Venture Building program to those Ready-to-Raise in the HATCH Accelerator program. Tune in to our virtual showcase and choose a-la-carte who you would like to see present, or join us for the whole day.
About the Venture Showcase
entrepreneurship@UBC’s Venture Showcase event will give our UBC ecosystem, mentors, investors and other industry organizations the ability to keep their thumb on the pulse of the next big thing, while providing our ventures with the exposure and opportunity to learn more about the funding landscape. Bringing our community together to learn, network and celebrate is what our 2020 Venture Showcase is all about.
This event is open to everyone, and entrepreneurship@UBC ventures will be selected to present based on readiness criteria as determined by their Entrepreneurs in Residences and mentors.
The entrepreneurship@UBC venture building journey begins by helping UBC founders to execute on their ideas by intensely focusing on customer discovery, competitive analysis, problem validation and product-market fit. Ventures go through one of our two foundational programs, Lab2Launch or CORE. Within these programs, we have developed two vertical streams: Social Venture and the Climate Venture Studio. The Social Venture stream supports impact-driven entrepreneurs providing them with the tailored programming, mentorship and resources to help them succeed. Our Climate Venture Studio supports UBC entrepreneurs that are developing solutions to the climate emergency with specialized programming, executive mentorship and community engagement. Ventures who have achieved market traction and are ready to scale are eligible to apply for the HATCH Accelerator program, made possible in partnership with the Institute of Computing, Information and Cognitive Systems (ICICS).
entrepreneurship@UBC propels UBC innovations out into the world through venture creation, providing UBC students, researchers, faculty members, alumni and staff with the resources, networks, and funding they need to succeed.
As one of the world’s top 40 research universities with 80,000 students, faculty and staff and over $650M annual research funding, UBC has long been a catalyst for innovation. Part of the Innovation UBC network, entrepreneurship@UBC supports UBC ventures and entrepreneurs to generate social and economic impacts in B.C. and around the world. To date, entrepreneurship@UBC has worked with 472 ventures who have raised $290 million in funding, generated more than $34 million in revenue and hired more than 500 employees, stimulating the economic and social landscape of B.C. while building anchor companies that have a global impact.
